So this is your first time making renders? Awesome! Once you get the hang of things it's really fun! Let's get started.
First things first you will want to get a 3D animation/render software. The following are ones I recommend.
Programs:
Cinema 4D ($)
Blender (FREE)
Maya ($)
I personally use Cinema 4D, you can find cracks for all of these programs if you are really desperate for a 3D animator. Blender is free and a lot of minecraft animators use blender, the only reason I do not use it myself is because I found it was too complicated for me. That doesn't mean you cannot learn though! The second thing you are going to need is basic knowledge of the software you chose. Here are some links to youtube videos showing you basic controls for the programs.
Program Basics
C4D Basics
Blender Basics
Maya Basics
The third thing you are going to need to get is a minecraft character rig. I have a list below of rigs I think are great to use
Rigs:
Cinema 4D rigs:
Frost Rig
Weedlion Rig
Hyper Rig
Blender Rigs:
CraftSize Rig
Nameless Rig
Maya Rigs:
Nameless Rig
Alright now that we have that out of the way, I can show you some nice settings for C4D, unfortunately since I do not use the other programs I listed here I don't know the best settings for them. If you are completely stuck with maya or blender still feel free to ask for assistance, I am still of course willing to help!
Now for the fun part! Making the render! Once again I will say these settings are for Cinema 4D!!
First of all you will want to find a good lighting setup for your character or scene. You want to find a good lighting setup no matter what program you use! I personally use either Greyscale gorilla's lightkit or just a simple sky light that comes with cinema 4D. Now when you use lighting you have to enable the right effects to make the light look natural and the character look HD and professional.
Here are some pictures for the settings that work best with renders and the skylight.
Those are the settings I find to best suit me. That's all I have for now! I hope this guide has helped the beginners get a basic idea of what to do or even helped them make their first render!
If you are a more advanced user feel free to send me a pm for more advanced techniques. I will be making a more advanced tips and tricks page in the near future.
Thanks, and happy rendering!
